No more Lake House! (Lvlnd wk #21)

Hi Everyone!! :)

Another week has come and gone. It is kinda cool being only able to be online 1x/wk. It definitely helps you notice the weeks coming and going.

A couple cool experiences from the week:

1. We are moving today! Out of the lake house and into the basement! I'm fairly excited for the move. Elder Harper is so funny... he has only lived in the lake house and has been excited for the last month or more to move into this new place. There are pros and cons to every place, but it is really hard to go wrong with such a private great and spacious building. I wonder how he will like it... Elder Blackham on the other hand has lived in over 10 locations as a missionary and therefore understands how BLESSED we were at this lake house. I am excited for a change of scenery. It was awesome, but too much for me. The couch that has been downstairs for the last month has been my Achilles heal. Dramatically has reduced my productivity... So this should be good.

2. I read "The Forth Missionary" a thesis like paper that was given about 10 years ago as a talk to missionaries by a mission president I believe. It describes 4 missionaries - the disobedient one that is sent home, the disobedient one who makes it the full mission ("how can I not get caught being disobedient?" mentality), the obedient one who withholds his heart and mind, and the forth missionary who gives his heart and might and mind and strength to the Lord. It was an awesome talk. I think it can be applied to lots of things. One of the best insights in this talk was that if we only give our time and talents to the Lord, we are giving him the things that he blessed us with - he already has those. However, if we give our hearts and will and mind to the Lord, we are giving Him the only things in the world he does not have. Also, if we are holding back and not giving everything, we cannot be changed by the Lord. If we are one of the first 3 types of missionaries, we will return essentially the same person. Therefore we must become the 4th missionary if we want our mission to be worth the sacrifice of being away from friends/family/school/future/etc. Soooo I've been reflecting on that and working at giving my all to the Lord. I know that God can make of me more than what I can make for myself, but it is still a little scary to go ALL IN. I working on it... Hopefully soon I'll share how I finally did it!

3. As we are in a group of three, we are allowed to visit single sisters from church (at least I think that is the case... I'll have to make sure later today). We visited this AWESOME lady Thursday night. Wow. She is extremely articulate and a great story teller. She shared about her conversion story and family and lots of things. It was so nice to hear the power of the Gospel in her life and what it has done. Single Sisters (widows, divorced, etc) are probably the least tended of the flock in the Gospel. I suppose that is why in the Epistle of James (1:27) he describes, "Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." I hope we can continue to visit them!

4. Austin (9yr old in part member family) finally made it to scouting! *exhale. That took like 3-4 weeks... but I'm glad he made it and is really excited to be a scout! His family is still doing well, although it is still challenging to get a time to meet!

5. Also, it was really cool on Friday at trainer's meeting for all the 2nd transfer trainers and new missionaries. All 4 of us from the district in the MTC that came to Fort Collins Colorado were there! Elder Pope, Elder Sell, Elder Empey, and myself are all companions with a missionary who has been out just past 2 months. We took an awesome picture after. It was nice to see all of them; they are all solid missionaries. I'm glad to have confidence that all of us will make it through our full 2 years together. (And I also ate lunch that day at Raising Canes Chicken Fingers - it's super delicious).

Have an awesome week everyone! If you would like to write me, the mission office address is still the place to go!
